The Story
Created by Finnish design Master Tapio Wirkkala in 1968, Ultima Thule is a sophisticated and intriguing form. Based on what is known as the ice glass technique, which was developed at Iittala Glassworks, Ultima Thule's rough surface structure is achieved by blowing into the mold - causing the patterns to gradually change as the glass burns the surface of the wooden molds.
